Kyoto to Okayama

Kicked around Kyoto Station in the morning. Checked out Isetan Department store toys and clothing. Kalina wanted a Subway sandwich for the train ride to Okayama. Hubby and I picked up yummy bentos.

Signs at rail stations also show in English, but there are many tracks, so we are glad we haven't gotten too lost. It helps of course that hubby speaks Japanese. Although, I usually just ask in English, and people are very helpful. On the streets of Kyoto last night, trying to trying to find the right bus, a man stopped and asked if we needed help (in English.)

The Shinkansen got us to Okayama in about 90 minutes. And our hotel is right at the station. We have been getting great views from our rooms, and this room is most spacious, with 3 beds.

Our view at day, and night. Okayama station is on the left.

We took the train to Kurashiki, where my ancestors are from. I just love the historical quarter, known as the Bikan District. So peaceful and pretty.

Back to Okayama in search of dinner. Kurashiki was shut down, I guess Mondays are a day off, hardly any shops or restaurants were open. We did find the curry restaurant we ate at 9 years ago!

This area is famous for the folk hero Momotaro, or Peach Boy. And the local treat is kibi dango, a sweet millet dumpling, featured in Momotaro legend. I bought boxes, of course. One of the greatest things about travel in Japan- you can ship your larger luggage ahead to your next hotel, which is helpful, especially since our brand new roller duffle bag broke from the strain!

The tourist center directed us to a local place for some gyoza, agedashi tofu, and yakitori. Our food list is pretty complete. Sorry, no pictures. I was too hungry!
Tomorrow, we are having lunch with my relatives.
